In the press release after the election, Mr. Lee reaffirmed his determination to ▲sever a policy coalition with the Grand National Party, ▲make an all-out effort to revise the current labor laws, and put the highest priorities on workers’ will rather than the government’s policy directions.
He will consult with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions if necessary, and have a face-to-face meeting with Kim Young-Hoon, Chairman of the KCTU. The President-elect Lee is expected to increase the influence of the FKTU through negotiations between labor and management at central level, rather than focusing on the relationship between labor and the government. At the same time, Mr. Lee seems to strengthen support for workplace level activities, taking advantage of the new system, union pluralism at enterprise level, to be implemented from July 1, 2011.
