As its affiliated unions are discussing their strike plans for 2015, the KCTU will be requesting their support for its own major strikes in 2015. The Korean Metal Workers’ Union is working on establishment of the FKTU-KCTU Joint Committee of Manufacturing Workers’ Unions* to deal with the government’s Comprehensive Measures for Non-Regular Workers, ordinary wage, and reduction of working hours, etc. The KMWU is also planning to hold a convention on 3 March to discuss its actions to begin in April or May 2015.
* The FKTU-KCTU Joint Committee of Manufacturing Workers’ Unions is composed of 3 unions under the FKTU (the Federation of Korean Metalworkers’ Trade Unions, the Federation of Korean Chemical Workers’ Unions and the Federation of Korean Textile & Distribution Workers’ Unions) and 2 unions under the KCTU (the Korean Metal Workers’ Union and the Korean Chemical & Textile Workers’ Federation)
The Korean Plant Construction Workers Union set as its targets for 2015 to reach membership totals of 100,000 and strikes involving all branches. The Union is also planning to organize more unions and go on strike at power plant construction sites amidst an environment in the petrochemical and steel industry already difficult for making large investment decisions.
For their 2015 plans, the Korean Federation of Clerical & Financial Labor Unions (KFCFLU) and the Korean Finance & Service Workers’ Union (KFSWU) plans to stage multiple strikes against layoffs, to establish unions in workplaces employing indirectly-hired workers, and to enlist more unions in the Federation. To achieve these goals, the KFCFLU and KFSWU will hold regular conventions on 4 February (Wed) and 11 February (Wed), respectively.
The Korean Government Employees’ Union (KGEU) is likely to stage strikes against the government’s planned reforms to the government employee pension service.
