Lotte Group“will produce female CEOs within 5 years”

The Chairman of Lotte Group, Mr. Dong-bin Shin, announced that the Group expects to increase the proportion of female managers to 30% and produce female CEOs by 2020, at Lotte’s WOW (Way of Women) Forum held on 3 December.

The Group has held the annual forum since 2012, in pursuit of developing talented female employees. The theme of 2015 forum was ‘What Women Want,’ and was attended by 500 female employees in the Group.

Mr. Shin also stated that Lotte Group “wants talented women to take on challenges and gain experience to become leaders in the Group.” He also promised to continuously improve the female employment rate by hiring 40% women during the new recruitment, and introducing flexible working arrangements, etc.

Mr. Shin emphasized that the Group “will exert itself to develop women CEOs, with measures to support minorities also essential.”

Reflecting Mr. Shin’s willingness to develop the female workforce, Lotte Group has been recruiting more women workers, the proportion of which is up from only 5% in 2005 to 40% in 2015. The percentage of female managers has also increased from 1% to 11% during the same period. Towards better working conditions for women, the Group introduced automatic childcare leave (after childbirth, mothers can take childcare leave without applying for permission) in 2012, and its affiliates have all introduced flexible working arrangements.
