Regarding the KRWU strikes, Korail announced a plan for a breakthrough by restructuring its personnel and organization.
On 21 October, Korail said that “Management rights have been severely damaged by the union’s resistance. From now on, Korail will increase productivity through job transfers of train drivers and train crews.”
Korail also mentioned that it would not rule out severe disciplinary action such as massive layoffs. Korail plans to improve operational rate for all trains including KTX at 100% within 6 months without union members who participated in the strike, and to recruit 3,000 new train drivers within 3 years. The company emphasized that it will strengthen the education & training of substitute workers and comply with all maintenance standards in order to ensure the safety of its passengers.
