LG U+ introduces a PC-shutdown system

LG U+ is the first Korean IT company to introduce a ‘PC-shutdown system’ to automatically shut off PCs at company closing time.

LG U+ has recently demonstrated its PC-shutdown system in certain departments on the basis of a labor-management agreement. This program will officially begin in March to shut off all workers’ PCs at the same time, 30 minutes after the normal closing time of 6 p.m. Personnel in systems operation and direct management stores, etc., will be excluded from this since it is impossible for them to go home immediately at closing time. A spokesperson for LG U+ stated, “The main objective is to establish a culture of efficient work during the workday and going home soon after closing time.”

While some companies in other industries, including Korea Water Resources Corporation, Shinhan Life Insurance, ING Life Insurance, Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, Lotte Cinema, Lotte Department Store, and Hyundai Department Store have also introduced PC-shutdown systems, LG U+ is the first Internet-based IT company to do so.

Work directions cannot be sent through KakaoTalk after 10 p.m. This applies to all workers at 300 LG U+ regional branches nationwide including the headquarters. Having office get-togethers on Friday nights and work orders during weekends or right before closing time are also prohibited.
