Doosan converts 450 workers to regular employment

Doosan Corporation and Doosan Infracore decided to convert their 450 non-regular workers to regular employment status in order to meet the demands of the time when job security has become an important social agenda. Both companies announced their plans to convert non-regular workers to regular employment and improve welfare benefits and wages of workers in subcontractor companies. The 450 converted non-regular workers include contract workers for constant and continuous work and dispatched workers who are currently employed through agencies.

While contract workers will be converted directly to permanent positions as soon as possible, dispatched workers will be brought on as new hires. For subcontracted workers who are technically employed by partner firms, the group will give KRW 1.2 million (USD 1,080) in additional annual pay, which is an extra KRW 100,000 (USD 89) per month along with improved benefits to lessen the gap with regular workers. These partner firms are highly dependent on business (to the tune of 35~50%) from the two Doosan companies.

Doosan Corporation and Doosan Infracore expect worker wages in their partner firms to increase by 5% with support from Doosan Group. Workers in partner firms will receive more benefits. Workers of those in business with Doosan Corporation will receive gifts during the nation’s two biggest holidays, Lunar New Year and Chuseok, as well as free health checkups and funeral services.

A spokesperson for Doosan Group said, “The competitiveness of Doosan is directly related to the competitiveness of workers in partner firms. The group expects that this plan will improve quality of life for our partner firms and their families.”
