POSCO to hire 6,000 regular workers by 2020

POSCO Group will increase the number of new workers by 50% over the next four years so that 6,000 regular workers are hired by 2020. The group has employed around 1,000 new regular workers every year so far, but has decided to increase this number to 1,500.

POSCO Group announced its plans to secure the necessary human resources to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and keep pace with the administration’s job creation policy.

A POSCO spokesperson stated that the company has decided on this increase to take the initiative in the operation of its smart IoT factories and AI technologies.

It will also reduce working hours to promote ‘life and rest’ and enhance the work-life balance of its workers. Instead of expecting that existing personnel work extra hours to make up the work for their colleagues on vacations, POSCO will fill the temporary vacancies with new hires.

For the next four years, new workers will be selected through various recruitment means, including school-work links, employment of honorably-discharged military personnel and open recruitment.

POSCO will raise KRW 550 billion (USD 481 million) to support its affiliates and SMEs. It has administered KRW 500 billion (USD 438 million) in funds so far this year. The remaining KRW 50 billion (USD 43 million) is expected to allow financially-strapped affiliates and SMEs to pay their bills in cash, instead of in promissory notes.
