Samsung, SK, Hyundai, LG express “No tolerance” for sexual harassment at work

As many cases of sexual harassment at work have recently been raised, major groups and their affiliates are strengthening their efforts to prevent it and punish it when it occurs.

Many companies are taking a ‘Zero Tolerance’ approach to sexual harassment at work, considering the potential it creates for a hostile work environment, a bad public impression of the companies where it occurs, and decreased sales.

Samsung Electronics released a statement of ‘Zero Tolerance for sexual harassment at work’ in September 2015, and every executive and lower-level employee with Samsung Electronics signed a pledge to respect each other. Hyundai Motor has stated it will take the strongest disciplinary actions against harassers and also provide decisive protection of victims, as soon as any report of sexual harassment is received and a fact-finding procedure has found the claims to be true.

Companies in SK Group have been providing educational courses on ethical management and sexual harassment for all employees every year. New executives are provided with additional courses on ethical management. LG Group defines sexual harassment as a violation of its ‘LG Rules of Ethics,’ and presently deals with claims of harassment by investigating and establishing a disciplinary committee as soon as possible. LG Group has also established internal organizations to deal with sexual harassment in each of its affiliates.
