Kia Motors reached an agreement with its workers union on a wage package for the year 2017 on 18 January 2018. In a vote held on the tentative agreement, 66.6% (17,809 members) of 26,760 union members (92.9% of all union members) supported the tentative agreement. Thirty three percent (8,902 members) did not support it, while 2,043 members abstained.
The tentative agreement indicates ▲monthly base pay will increase by KRW 58,000 (USD 54) ▲ performance-based bonus and incentive will be 300% of monthly base pay + KRW 2.8 million (USD 2,588) ▲KRW 400,000 (USD 378) worth of vouchers will be given to each worker (valid for purchasing products in Korean traditional markets)
Labor and management also agreed to improve worker quality of life and enhance corporate social responsibility through a fund of up to KRW 2 billion (USD 1.89 million), as well as enhancing support programs for voluntary retirees.
Labor and management issued a joint statement that they would resolve subcontracted worker issues by finishing the procedures for hiring in-house subcontracted workers as Kia employees (as they agreed to in 2016), and run a taskforce to do so.
