Lotte to use AI for resume screening in the 1st half of 2018

Lotte Group has announced that it will use artificial intelligence (AI) to screen resumes during this year’s annual recruitment which begins in March.

The new AI was developed by Lotte Data Communication and a local language processing company. It will evaluate cover letters and resumes to identify the applicants best suited to the jobs and the company, as well as check for plagiarism.

The new AI system will be used first by its main affiliates, including Lotte Department Store and Lotte Mart, as a pilot program with plans to extend it to subsidiaries in phases. The Group will use the existing screening system in combination with the AI, with the latter used as reference.

Lotte Group is expecting to guarantee fairer and more effective selection during the recruitment procedure, since the AI is able to be exact in reviewing applicant resumes.

A spokesperson from Lotte Group explained that “the AI system has made fair and objective evaluation possible. Talented youth will be more likely to receive employment. Considering youth unemployment has become a significant social problem, the Group is doing its best to build a more accurate system for recruitment and to create jobs.”
