E-mart speeds up restructuring

E-mart Inc. is speeding up its restructuring by shutting down or selling off struggling stores. E-mart shut down its stores in Haksung, Bupyeong, and Siji as well as its locations in Hanam and Pyeongtaek last year. It also decided to sell off its Deogi store in Ilsan. E-mart closed down an SSG Food market in Mokdong this past January, and grocery stores in Bupyeong and Siji, which were sold last year, will soon follow.

E-mart will speed up the restructuring and otherwise improve the competitiveness of its existing brick-and-mortar locations, including those presently losing money.

Along with improving efficiency of store operations, E-mart will promote a mutually-beneficial relationship with SMEs, as evidenced by its contracting-out of employee cafeterias to mid-sized catering service providers.
