Shinhan Bank introduces flexible working arrangements

Shinhan Bank introduced a set of flexible work arrangements that include allowing remote work and flexible working hours, and building Smart Working Centers. Shinhan Bank is the first to introduce this type of flexible work arrangement to the banking sector.

Employees who can work without needing the Bank’s computer network (those who are in planning or developing banking services, design or etc.) can engage in remote work.

Shinhan Bank also runs additional offices, called Smart Working Centers to allow certain employees to work without having to travel to their main offices. Employees who perform individual projects, not group work, can also use the Centers. For example, an employee in the Information & Communications Technology Department can engage in program analysis/design/testing, writing project proposals, research and data analysis, etc., at the Center. Employees who frequently work outside the office, like those responsible for private or business banking, can also use the Center.

Flexible working hours allows employees to adjust their work hours according to their daily cycle. The primary beneficiaries will be parents who need to take care of their children and go to work later than others, and staff who frequently travel abroad for work, etc.

A bank spokesperson stated that “the smart work policy is designed to establish an efficient corporate culture beyond the constraints of time and space.”
