Labor focuses on pending labor issues including reduction of working hours

The two major umbrella unions held press conferences (FKTU on 16 January, KCTU on 17 January) to propose the direction of major agendas for 2018 including the promotion of social dialogue and settlement of pending labor issues regarding the reduction of working hours.

President Joo-young Kim of the FKTU plans to focus on ▲reducing working hours (revision of special types of businesses, abolishing the MOEL’s administrative guidelines) ▲responding to the minimum wage hike and improvement of systems, and ▲resolving pending labor issues through social dialogue.

President Myung-hwan Kim of the KCTU has plans to push forward with ▲eradicating “evils” against labor, ▲reforming conglomerates, ▲realizing a 20% trade union density rate, and ▲ratifying the ILO Fundamental Conventions. The two umbrella unions will hold a regular convention to determine their action plans in February
