LG Electronics to overhaul its corporate culture

LG Electronics will overhaul its corporate culture by changing the current seniority-based to job & role-based ones to increase productivity.

The company is planning to motivate its workforce to focus more on job and roles. The current system uses titles such as staff member, deputy manager, manager, and managing director, etc. The new system will continue to use staff member, but also add team leader, department leader, project leader etc., which are intended to clarify the jobs of individuals in those positions. However, the current title system will also be kept to minimize confusion and retain social norms.

LG Electronics said “the current titles will be kept. But the system will be changed into a role-oriented one which uses department leader, team leader and project leader, etc. LG Electronics is planning to enhance the skills of the workers with the new system. The new system is an improvement over the existing one.”

The company is also planning to introduce peer assessment in their employee performance reviews, and extend summer vacation to 2 weeks.
